چکیده

BACKGROUND/AIM Celiac is predominantly a disease of the small intestine characterized by chronic malabsorption in genetically susceptible individuals who ingest grains containing. gluten, such as wheat, barley, and rye. In the present study, we evaluate left ventricular function in patients with celiac disease by using strain and strain rate echocardiography imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty celiac patients and 20 healthy controls were included in this study. Left ventricle systolic and diastolic functions were evaluated with standard 2-dimension, M-mode, conventional Doppler echocardiography. Strain and strain rate parameters were obtained for 8 segmentsof the left ventricle. RESULTS There were no significant differences between patients and controls regarding left ventricle function as assessed by 2-dimensional, M-mode, conventional Doppler. Differences between straini rate values did not reach statistical significance, but when strain and average strain values were taken into consideration, statistically significant differences were found between the groups. CONCLUSION We determined the subclinical effect of celiac disease on left ventricular systolic function by using strain echocardiography imaging for the first time in the literature. We showed that evaluation of the cardiac involvement in celiac patients by sophisticated echocardiography techniques is essential.

Evaluation of strain and strain rate parameters using two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography in patients with coronary artery disease (Research Article)

The study aimed was to measure left ventricular (LV) strain using speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) for assessment of LV function. Eighty-two subjects (mean age 57±9 years) with suspected chest pain underwent two-dimensional (2D)-echocardiography before coronary angiography. Conventional echocardiographic parameters were used for the assessment of LV function. Longitudinal strain and its ...

Tissue Doppler, strain, and strain rate echocardiography for the assessment of left and right systolic ventricular function.

Tissue Doppler (TDE), strain, and strain rate echocardiography are emerging real time ultrasound techniques that provide a measure of wall motion. They offer an objective means to quantify global and regional left and right ventricular function and to improve the accuracy and reproducibility of conventional echocardiography studies. Radial and longitudinal ventricular function can be assessed b...

Doppler Tissue Echocardiography and Electrocardiography in Children with Celiac Disease Compared to Controls

Background Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune mediated gluten sensitive enteropathy and characterized by a wide range of clinical manifestations. The study aimed to compare Doppler tissue echocardiography findings between children with celiac disease and healthy children. Materials and Methods This case-control study was performed on 186 celiac and healthy children aged 6- 19 years.  Celiac d...
